Our entire Run Catalina Team has been working extremely hard with local authorities, LA County Health Officials, the Catalina Island Conservancy, the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce, and our other island stakeholders and partners. We know many of you have been planning, training, and looking forward to experiencing the beauty of the island this year. Your support in the event directly benefits the Catalina Island Conservancy, a non-profit conservation organization working to help keep Catalina wild and several community charities that volunteer along the course. Lastly, the Catalina Island Half Marathon is an important economic contributor to the Chamber, local hotels, restaurants, and stores.
The island of Catalina, our event partners, and our team want to have the event and had high hopes in going forward with the Catalina Island Half Marathon & 10K, since it's later in the year, but with many restrictions still in place we don't have government officials' approval.
As a result, we will not be able to host the Catalina Island Half Marathon and 10K this year on Catalina Island. The safety of our runners, volunteers, emergency services, and staff cannot be ensured to the comfort level of LA County Supervisors nor the LA County Health Officials.
In light of this, we will be providing a series of deferment options for you to take advantage of for 2021 and 2022.
We feel making this decision today gives the majority of our customers who plan to travel to the event, the necessary time, to adjust to their plans accordingly.
Below are the available options for the cancellation of the Catalina Island Half Marathon & 10K. All participants must select one of the options by October 31, 2020. Selections can be made on the homepage of https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/Avalon/CatalinaIslandHalfMarathon10K.

California's ultimate trail half-marathon will challenge you with climbs, peaks and vistas unlike any you will experience at any other half marathon. You will start in the town of Avalon, run past the Wrigley Mansion, and then enter the Interior for a few miles of climbs. You will be rewarded at the summit with sweeping views of Pacific Ocean where on a clear day will see two other islands that comprise the Channel Islands. After running past the summit you will run downhill through the Wrigley Memorial before finishing back in town. The 10K also boast an incredibly scenic course as it traverses the hillsides of Avalon.
